FAQ

X-rays are a type of electromagnetic radiation that can pass through the body, allowing medical professionals to create images of the inside of structures, such as bones and organs. They are commonly used for diagnostic purposes to help identify and assess various medical conditions.

You need an order from a provider just like a prescription for medication.

A technologist will perform the exam.  A brief history will be obtained.  Any metal and clothing objects may need to be removed.  Positioning and the number of pictures/views will be determined on the area of concern and/or exam requested. Patient will need to remain still during the pictures to ensure no motion or blurriness is captured on the images.

Depends on what is ordered, however most x-rays can be performed in 15 minutes or less.

Provide a thorough medical history.  Tell the technologist if you are pregnant or may be pregnant.  Metal can obscure areas of concern; therefore, you should remove all metal from the area of concern and may be asked to change into scrubs.

No, general x-rays exams do not require that.

X-rays are painless; however, positioning may cause temporary discomfort.

While X-rays have some risks, the doses used in medical imaging are typically low and considered safe. The benefits of obtaining important medical information usually outweigh the potential risks. It’s essential to follow your healthcare provider’s recommendations and discuss any concerns with them to ensure a balanced understanding.

Most x-rays can be completed within 15 minutes or less.
